Firmwide
and Practice Strategic Planning
Strategic planning
is Smock•Sterling’s
recognized core competency and our
other services flow from this skill
set. We assist our clients in developing
strategic plans at the firm, practice,
or office levels. Using our FOCUS
methodology, we are particularly
adept at helping partners agree
on strategic directions and truly
creative strategies to achieve those
directions.
Our FOCUS strategic
planning methodology yields a one
page strategic plan for a firm or
practice/office that all those participating
in the process agree upon. FOCUS
is flexible and allows for very
broad or narrowly focused participation
accommodating the differences
in management structures and decision-making
processes. The process is also uniquely
well structured to inject a significant
understanding and analysis of the
external environment into the development
of a firms or practice's strategic
plan. Further, it incorporates implementation
considerations directly in the planning
process.
Planning Workshops
We structure planning workshops, either in support of our
FOCUS methodology or in advancing a planning process already
underway in a firm. Our considerable workshop design and facilitation
capabilities draw upon proven analytical exercises and activities
that result in solid agreement on firm or practice
direction and a path for how to get there.
Activities Supporting Strategic
Planning
Our capabilities extend to the many
supporting activities needed to
ensure successful strategic planning,
including: assessments of the present
state of the firm and the identification
of key strategic issues; focused
client surveys that capture client
input on the firms future
direction; strategic market and
competitive research; and other
analyses tailored to the specific
needs of each firm.
Implementation Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation
We help clients establish implementation
(or action) plans
defining and prioritizing implementation
initiatives, assigning responsibility
for implementation, and setting
deadlines for discrete projects.
Where needed, we utilize project
management software to help clients
manage workloads, sort out potentially
conflicting priorities, and monitor
implementation over time. And, we
are often called upon by continuing
clients to assist with evaluations
of plan implementation and subsequent
strategy updates.
